Perspectives in Caring
CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION AND GOALS
The Society chose the theme of Globalization
in Health Care Transcultural Perspectives in Caring for the 29th Annual
Conference. The conference is designed for professionals, administrators,
policy makers, educators, consultants, researchers and students in health
care/social service interested in issues and applications of transcultural
nursing in health care and policy.
The conference begins with a pre-conference
that will focus on issues related to international research and collaboration.
An orientation to Transcultural Nursing and Preparation for certification
are available on the day of the pre-conference. The Awards Gala
honors distinguished achievements in the field and gives special tribute
to Dr. Madeleine Leininger founder of Transcultural Nursing and the
Society.
International and national speakers discuss
the effects of globalization on health care, health policy, and nursing
practice around the world. Concurrent sessions, and poster presentations
provide examples of transcultural theory, research and practice throughout
the globe. A writersâ workshop will help authors prepare for
publication in the Journal of TCN and a special breakfast panel will
discuss the state of knowledge in TCN. An evening in downtown
San Antonio celebrating the many cultures of Texas as well as scheduled
times during the conference provide ample opportunity for networking
among members.
CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES
Explore healthcare issues
associated with global migration.
Analyze implications of nursing
recruitment and reallocation of nursing resources on international healthcare.
Describe transcultural care
addressing effects of hostility and cultural pain on the health and
well being of individuals and communities.
Use transcultural and other
disciplinary theories, models and concepts to promote global partnerships
in nursing education and practice.
