Description:

Collection
of business-relevant online materials
on intelligent energy topics (last update 30.10.08)
Introduction
This little collection of
business-relevant online materials on intelligent energy topics is work
in progress, i.e. whenever we come across potentially interesting materials,
they are added. But as it is only a “by-product” of our daily work,
you will find a lot of internal remarks, patchy descriptions, no material
for some languages etc.
Nevertheless, we hope it can
be a starting point for the collections of material which you will put
on your national/regional webpages: maybe the one or the other brochure
or tool can be used for the national training sessions or can be recommended
to the SMEs your advisors get in contact with. After all, one task of
CHANGE participants is making useful material easily available for SMEs.
Some entries are marked with
green ***asterisks. I believe, they could be recommended as preparatory
material for the advisors coming to the training.
Of course we are grateful
for your critical and constructive feedback on the usefulness of those
materials, especially the ones we recommend for the introduction –
if you have a different view (we are beginning to also make a very rough
ranking from ***very good to *medium) or better materials, please let
us know so that the collection can be improved.

***Brochure EMAS Energy
Efficiency Toolkit for SMEs:
http://ec.europa.eu/environment/emas/pdf/general/energyeff_en.pdf
Internal Remark:
Very well described, seems about right level of difficulty, good practical
examples, of course some references to EMAS which would not be necessary.
We have asked to have 80 copies to distribute at the Brussels training.
(To be confirmed).

practical recommendations for SMEs, with examples of cost-savings.
**“Saving energy

Remark: The brochure itself
is not very different from other ones, but it includes a
“mini-checklist” for businesses to
check for the most obvious energy waste. Not sufficient for a pre-check,
but an idea of how a “walkaround” could be structured.

Regional information
for Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs)
ManagEnergy
has recently created a new thematic page to assist SMEs in gaining access
to locally relevant energy information. You can the page in the Thematic Pages section of the site;
the page includes legislation, funding, local experiences, networking
and sources of further information.
Despite
the popular focus on big industry, SMEs - whose collective energy consumption
and environmental impact are immense - are well placed to boost their
energy efficiency and introduce renewable energy technologies, which
are often local and small-scale by nature. It seems evident that the
objectives set up by the EU in the field of renewables and energy efficiency
will not be met without a clear involvement of industry and in particular
SMEs.
New and renewable issues as well as energy efficiency are of great importance
to SMEs. Indeed, small and medium-sized enterprises must be aware of
the opportunities offered by new and renewable energies. In addition,
a more responsible and efficient use of energy will not only enable
SMEs to save money but will also have an impact on the image of a company
as an energy- and environmentally-responsible company.
